COVID-19
There is a pandemic going on during this time and I urge everyone to try to remain as calm as possible. There will be an increase in stress, depression and general uncertainty during this time. Dealing with the unknown is always scary and when the unknown is killing our loved ones it’s just downright frightening. We need to practice general hygiene (which we should have been doing on a regular basis anyway) and practice social distancing. Yes, I know I sound like every news station right now but the fact is just like you, I don’t know much about what’s going on nor when everything is going to end. We have historical examples of what has happened anytime there was a major pandemic going on in the world. The Bubonic Plague that resulted in 200 million deaths over a 4-year period in the 14th century (1347 - 1351) or even the Spanish flu that resulted in ~50 million deaths over a year during the early 20th century (1918 -1919). The one difference in this case than in those times is the strides we’ve made in scientific research. We have to put our faith in the medically trained professionals whose been studying for a situation like this to break out. We have to put our trust in the people leading the country to listen to the medical professionals and provide us with the correct information in order to ensure our safety. I can understand it could be difficult because of the way things are nowadays with “fake news” and people intentionally trying to stir up controversy. I just recommend everyone do their own independent research and do their best to keep themselves safe. Don’t put out information that you don’t believe to be completely true because some people are easily swayed. Practice good hand washing routines and stay six feet from each other, at the very least. Stay calm and stay safe. We’ll make it through these uncertain times.
