Personal Space
For any of my readers that live in New York, it’s been 2 months since everything shut down and we’ve been forced to remain in our homes. Unless you are an essential worker or you need to buy essentials, it is highly recommended that you stay home. If anyone knows me, they know I absolutely hate being home for extended periods of time. It triggers whatever form of anxiety (see my post on Anxiety) that I may have. I can only imagine that by now that some people are experiencing cabin fever and they may start to take drastic measures that they may not need to. I decided to dedicate today’s post to talking about personal space and comfort.
We are a social species, so I’ve been told, but at the same time we need our personal space. Let’s take my family for example. In my home I have 3 younger brothers (one in college, thankfully) and both of my lovely parents. However at times it could feel like we are on top of each other. To alleviate this we retire to our individual rooms and allow ourselves to be either alone with our thoughts, our shows, video games, etc. For the readers that don’t live with many people or live alone, you may not have this issue though. I would suggest for the people that live with others, to allot some time to do what you want by yourself. Find a quiet area to read or meditate. Maybe play the game you’ve been meaning to try. But first I would suggest, if possible, seeking that area where you would have your own personal space to do what you would like.
Now on to the issue of comfort. We all like to be comfortable as possible. Unfortunately this pandemic has had the opposite effect. We are unable to change the facts of life as it is today but we could make changes in our personal life that may help increase our level of comfortability. This goes back to the personal space. Not everyone enjoys being cooped up with others, regardless of who they are too them. So first start with identifying a space which brings you the most comfort. My next suggestion is find out what interests you. One of the good things that comes from this unfortunate time is the amount of time that we have available to us. Start that hobby that you’ve been wanting to, start that exercise routine, start that diet or do nothing. Whatever interests you make an effort to try it out. We have been allotted the time to do so.
Until this pandemic is over we have to make changes in our life to make the best of it. We could either sit and complain about these changes or we could make positive changes in our life so that we enjoy this time. I’ll end by saying this, we aren’t able to see our friends and family as we would like to but we are able to get to know ourselves better and work on becoming the best version of our self.
